Both of these first two stories I read that qualify for this category came from the anthology Story-Wallah: Short Fiction from South Asian Writers. And I thoroughly enjoyed both of them.
“The Perfection of Giving” by Chitra Fernando, a Sri Lankan author, was somewhat a story of comeuppance, though that’s probably not the kindest way to put it. So much sadness in the way we humans treat one another.
“Winterscape” by Anita Desai was my favorite of the two stories. Set in two different times and two different countries, it was a story of culture and family, but most of all the love of two sisters. At times it broke my heart, at times it filled my heart with joy.
Two authors I’ve not read before but would very much like to read again.
